Are there different types of filter presses?
A filter press is a key part of many industrial processes where solid particles need to be separated from liquid. With the right filter press, organisations can achieve higher reliability, better dewatering efficiency and lower total cost of ownership.

Two main types of filter presses
We offer two basic types of filter presses:
- Chamber filter press
- Membrane filter press
Both are based on filtration using filter plates and filter cloths. Once filtration is complete, the press is opened and the filter cake is removed.
Filtration rate and capacity are customised by:
- the size of the plates
- number of filter plates
- fineness of the filter cloth
Chamber filter press - robust solution for continuous operation
The chamber filter press is used for the separation of solid and liquid phases, such as particles from process fluids. The suspension is pumped in between the filter plates where the liquid phase is pressed out through the filter cloths, while the solid phase forms a filter cake.

Membrane filter press - for maximum dewatering
The membrane filter press works like a chamber filter press but with an extra step. After the initial filtration, the membranes are inflated and provide a secondary pressing of the filter cake.

Suitable for:
- applications with high demands on low residual moisture
- chemical processes

Design - Sidebar or Overhead filter press
The filter presses are available in different designs depending on the process layout and installation requirements:
- Sidebar filter press - side-mounted design with filter outlet underneath
- Overhead filter press - overhead design with filtrate outlet underneath
Overhead models are offered in several designs:
- OH - 1 or 2 hydraulic pistons
- OZ - 4 hydraulic pistons for high closing force and larger presses
Manual to fully automated - the right level for each plant
Filter presses can be supplied as:
- Manuella - for pilot plants and small batches
- Semi-automatic - where selected steps are automated
- Fully automated - fully integrated into control systems for maximum safety and minimum manual handling
