Choose the right dosing pump in the process industry

Dosage pumps are used in water treatment plants and chemical processing plants, among others. Unlike a centrifugal pump, a dosing pump must be able to dispense small and precise amounts of chemicals over time. At the same time, the pressure must be adapted to the back pressure in the container into which the liquid is to be dosed.

Which chemical should be dosed?

- When choosing a dosing pump, a number of parameters must be taken into account, with volume and pressure being the first to be considered. It is also important to choose a pump that is classified for the liquid in question, says Therése Heimby.

Sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid are examples of corrosive acids, but chemicals such as chlorine can also cause corrosion problems. pH adjustment is a common application. One must also consider the temperature and viscosity of the fluid and the operating environment in which the pump will be located.
