solenoid valves
A solenoid valve is an electromechanical valve that controls the flow of liquid or gas in a process. They are designed for fast switching and shut off, release, dose or distribute liquids and gases in corrosive industrial applications. With Lyma solenoid valves you get:
- quick and safe switching
- long service life
- high reliability
- compact design

Pilot operated and direct acting solenoid valves for industry
The most common variants are pilot operated or direct acting. Pilot operated ones use system line pressure to open and close the main orifice, while direct operated ones open or close the main valve orifice directly. Today, solenoid valves that have low voltages (24 V DC) and low power through pilot operated valves are becoming more common in industry. Solenoid valves are used in a variety of industrial applications such as
- Waterworks
- Wastewater treatment
- Mechanical and civil engineering
- Cooling, lubrication and dosing
- Security technology
- Drainage
- Cleaning processes
How does a solenoid valve work?
The solenoid valve design consists of a spool, piston and sleeve. When the valve is closed, a piston return spring holds the piston against the opening and prevents flow. When the solenoid coil is energised, a magnetic field is created that raises the plunger and allows flow. When the solenoid is then fed into an open valve, the plunger closes off the orifice, which in turn stops the flow.In most applications, it is necessary to start or stop the flow in the circuit to control the fluids in the system. A solenoid valve is usually used for this purpose and can be placed in remote locations to be controlled by simple electrical switches.
What is a NAMUR solenoid valve?
NAMUR is an acronym for User Association of Automation Technology in Process Industries, which is a standard for automated valve technology. The pneumatic actuators have a standard interface for Namur solenoid valves. Lyma has a wide range of Namur valves suitable for pneumatic actuators.
Lyma valves can handle both water and toxic chemicals
Lyma solenoid valves are superior for aggressive media such as toxic, corrosive or polluting liquids. They are also excellent for ferric chloride, solvents, hydrochloric acid, slurries and process gas. This makes our valves ideal for applications in industrial and process plants. Our range of ASV solenoid valve is e.g. a direct operated globe valve where you can choose whether the valve body is delivered in the materials PVC-U, PP or PTFE. The seals are of EPDM or FPM and the valve is connected in the pipe system via internal thread or glue sleeve. The supply voltage is usually 230 VAC or 24 VDC.
What is important to consider when choosing a model?
To get the right model for your application and to achieve the best results, there are a few points to consider:
- At what pressure should the valve operate? You need to find out the minimum and maximum pressure, and also whether there is a pressure difference on the different sides of the valve.
- NC/NO Should the valve be closed or open when the power is switched off?
- Entrances and exits What function should the valve fulfil? How many inlets and outlets do you need?
- Tension What voltage do you need for the valve to work?
