Dosing pumps are used when a specific amount of liquid is to be dosed in a pulsating flow, into a larger liquid process. This often involves the addition of small doses of chemicals, so high accuracy is important.
Dosing pumps consist of piston pumps and diaphragm pumps
Dosing pumps are often piston, diaphragm or piston-diaphragm pumps. The high accuracy of these pumps makes them ideal for pulsating flows in, for example, water treatment plants, the chemical industry and pharmaceutical manufacturing plants.

How do dosing pumps for pulsating flows work?
In the dosing pump, a specific amount of liquid is sucked in under the return stroke of the displacer, which is pushed into the dosing line at the pressure stroke. Diaphragm (diaphragm pump) or piston (piston pump) is used for dosing. The volume flow is varied by variable stroke or variable speed, where the volume flow is independent of the back pressure.
- A diaphragm metering pump consists of a magnetic housing, drive magnet and electronic control unit. The second component consists of a wet end with dosing head, suction and pressure valve and dosing diaphragm.
- A piston metering pump consists of a durable piston made of coated stainless steel. When the piston moves, the suction valve closes and the medium flows out of the dosing head through a pressure valve. When the piston moves in the opposite direction, the pressure valve is closed by the negative pressure in the dosing head. New dosing medium then flows in through the suction valve.
