Centrifugal pumps
Centrifugal pumps for demanding industrial applications
Centrifugal pumps belong to the rotodynamic pump group and are one of the most widely used types of pumps in the process industry. The pump group includes many different designs and constructions, with pumps being divided into horizontal and vertical centrifugal pumps, as well as single-stage and multi-stage centrifugal pumps.
Lyma offers centrifugal linear pumps, primarily plastic centrifugal linear pumps, for handling highly corrosive and aggressive fluids.

Applications of centrifugal pumps
Centrifugal pumps are versatile and used in a variety of industries such as:
-
Mining and quarrying
-
Chemical industry
-
Pharmaceutical industry
-
Food industry
-
Water and wastewater processes
The pumps are particularly suitable for transporting liquids with a steady flow between different levels. Depending on the choice of material and design, centrifugal pumps can be used for pumping corrosive and aggressive media such as:
-
Hydrochloric acid
-
Iron chloride
-
Lime milk
-
Sulphuric acid
When handling these media, the lined centrifugal pumps often the best choice to ensure long life and minimal impact on the pump's internal components.
Function and design
A centrifugal pump uses centrifugal force to transport liquid. Inside the pump, one or more impellers rotate, creating a pressure differential between the pump inlet and outlet. This pressure build-up sets the liquid in motion and enables efficient transport, even at higher flows and level differences.
In applications with aggressive chemicals, a lined centrifugal pump, where the liquid-carrying parts of the pump are lined with plastic material to protect against corrosion and chemical degradation.
Multistage pumps with multiple impellers
Centrifugal pumps can be designed as multistage pumps, where several impellers are connected in series. Each stage contributes to an increase in pressure, making multistage pumps suitable for applications with high pressure requirements. A multistage pump cannot run dry for any length of time and requires proper operation for optimal performance.
Vertical centrifugal pumps
Lyma also offers vertical centrifugal pumps which are well suited for installation in tanks, basins and sump applications. Unlike wet-stored pumps, these models can be run dry during operation. They are supplied both in fixed lengths and with variable length suction pipework to suit different installation conditions.
Horizontal centrifugal pumps for corrosive liquids
Lyma's horizontal centrifugal pumps, both direct coupled and free shaft end, are designed to handle corrosive liquids such as acids, bases and solvents. For particularly demanding applications, Lyma offers plastic-lined centrifugal pumps, where the lining material provides effective protection against chemical attack and wear.
Pumps for corrosive and aggressive liquids
Lyma offers a complete range of centrifugal pumps for tough industrial applications. The range includes both standard versions and lined centrifugal pumps for processes where chemical resistance is crucial. With several material options and designs, the right pump can be selected for most corrosive and/or abrasive fluids.
With over decades of experience in the process industry and extreme flow applications, Lyma is a trusted partner throughout the process - from pump selection to long-term operation.
