What is a PTFE hose?

PTFE tubing, polytetrafluoroethylene, is a polymer material with high resistance to strong acids, bases and aggressive chemicals. The material can withstand temperatures ranging from -73 °C to +260 °C and retains its properties even under demanding process conditions. This makes PTFE tubing a suitable choice for applications where both chemical resistance and temperature tolerance are important.

Applications for PTFE tubing

PTFE tubing is used in several sectors of the process industry, particularly where the media are chemically aggressive or where high temperatures place demands on the tubing material. In chemical industry PTFE tubing is used, amongst other things, for the transport of corrosive and aggressive chemicals. Also within the paper and pulp industry This type of hose is used in processes where chemical resistance and temperature resistance are important properties.

Choose the right PTFE hose for your application

The choice of PTFE hose depends, amongst other things, on the medium to be conveyed, the operating temperature and pressure, hygiene and certification requirements, and the level of flexibility required for the installation. When handling aggressive chemicals and high temperatures, corrugated hoses are often used, whilst smooth hoses offer low flow resistance and are easier to clean.

In confined installations, flexibility and kink resistance can be crucial. For pharmaceutical– and, in food processing, hygiene requirements and cleaning methods must also be taken into account when selecting a hose.
